Stevenage Marathon

October 20th ,Stevenage

This was the annual Stevenage marathon event. There is a half marathon and a full marathon held on the same day. The full marathon course covers all of Stevenage before finishing at Hampden Park. I am no expert but this looks a tough course. Hampden Park is the highest point in Stevenage and the difference in elevation across the course by my estimate is about 120 feet. So there are a number of long inclines for the runners to contend with and it was a very windy day so there was a headwind for much of the course as well.

I came across the event by accident. I didn’t even know it was on. However, I stopped and visited three different locations on the Marathon ending up at the finish line. I only had my small Fujifilm X100vi with me so many of the shots are environmental in that the subject is quite small and there is a lot of background in context to the images. It would’ve been good to have one of the telephone photos or zooms with me to get a wider variety of shots. At the finish line there was a media photographer there who covers a lot of the local running clubs and I stopped and had a chat with him for about 10 minutes as the road runners were coming across the line. Some of them looked absolutely exhausted as you would expect.
