The First Rut

October 11th, Richmond Park, London

This was my third visit to the park in a month. The Park gates opening times have moved back to 7:30am, so travelling later the journey has got longer. I had chosen this day as the forecast was for clear skies and sunshine all morning. On arrival at the park a low mist/fog covered the majority of the low lying areas. Due to traffic I had arrived 15 minutes after opening so the Pen ponds car park already had a dozen cars. I noticed a group of seven photographers setting of, and I think I recognised the group leader from his channell on Youtube, Cleary this was a Workshop he was runnung.

I headed across the bracken covered heath to the woods southeast of the Ponds. A number of stages could be heard bellowing through out the morning and in one case the resident Stag was challenged by a newcomer and a brief session of Rutting kicked off. Unfortunately desp[ite lots of noise alll the other stags kept there distance.

So perhaps one more visit is needed.

My equipment today was My XH2 with the 150-600 zoom and due to is slow F8 max aperture I also took a tripod. Despite some high ISO numbers at the start of there morning the pictures were OK after some denoising in LR. The processing of the images has taken a different approach this visit, and I have kept the colours muted and less saturated, which I am increasingly liking.
