City of London Crematorium Foxes

25th February, Ilford

The city of London crematorium is known for its urban foxes. I had contacted the cemetery manager by email to request permission to photograph the foxes as per the conditions on the website. At the last minute my approval came through and I headed to the cemetery around lunchtime. On arrival I was expected, and given a map and told where the foxes had most recently been seen.

I then spent four hours walking around the entire cemetery around the periphery near the woods where every single day lots of foxes are seen. Needless to say, I did not see a single fox. I had given up and had walked back to the entrance to get in the car and return home. However, there was a tea shop and public toilets so I availed myself of the facilities and bought a cup of tea and a piece of cake. At which point the café Owner said well why don’t you sit outside for awhile? They always turn up here about about 3 o’clock. Just after three a young fox appeared the café gave me some ham so I could feed it. It came to within about 6 feet of me. These are the photographs that you see below.

It’s a nice shot, but not the images I had gone for, I’m still looking to get the Fox in the gravestones. So I will return.
