Bennington Snowdrops
5th February, Bennington House, Hertfordshire
I had booked tickets for my annual visit to see the snowdrops at Bennington Lordship Gardens. The weather was good and I’d booked a date in what looked like to be the middle of the snowdrop season, however as it turned out, I was probably a week early and at least 3/4 of the snowdrops had yet to appear. I arrived at the same time as a coach party of elderly ladies who were heading for the tea shop. My experience last year was that the tea shop is very good but overflowing with people people all of the time. My intention was to get a cup of tea and a piece of cake before going around the grounds so I had to power walk to overtake this group of elderly ladies. After a cup of tea and a piece of cake I went around the grounds. I started with the Moat and was pleased to see they had relayed the steps and put a handrail down into the base of the moat. However, the lack of snowdrops made this less impressive than previous years. I walked around the Moat up to the house and round the gardens and took the usual pictures. It was pleasant, but I didn’t get anything exciting photography wise.
