Shuttleworth Family Day Airshow
The forecast for today was to be sunny clear skies with the odd cloud, and in the mid 20c. At short notice I decided to go to the Shuttleworth family show. This was taken place at Shuttleworth airfield near Biggleswade Bedfordshire. It was bulled as a weekend event with funfairs, rides, attractions for all the family, but with an airshow Sunday afternoon.
The runway almost runs north south with the crowd line on the Western side. This wasn’t too bad as the Sun was high in the sky and over my right shoulder as the flying display started at 2 o’clock. Prior to the flying there were parades of vintage motorbikes and vintage cars, which paraded up and down the airfield. The flying display was scheduled from 2 o’clock to 5:30 pm. Due to some technical difficulties there were a few changes to the lineup, the wing walkers would not be attending, but the great news was the Battle of Britain Memorial flights Lancaster was still arriving around 4:15 pm. It wouldn’t do a full display but it would do three fly pasts.
Shuttleworth is a great airfield to go to, as it’s relatively small and the aircraft are close to the flight line giving the possibility of some great photos. There was to be only one jet, the vampire, on the agenda otherwise it was all propellers, and I would be trying to shoot with slow shutter speeds again to get a blurred propeller look.
It was a good display, they kept the pace of the events moving, they filled a couple of gaps in the agenda seamlessly and Shuttleworth again prove to have the best PA and commentary of all the airshows that I’ve been to this year.
I chose to wait until the Lancaster had flown past, and then like many people I packed my gear up and walked slowly back to the car. I was going to miss the last half hours flying, But I didn’t want to be in a 30 minute traffic jam trying to get off the airfield.
I saw about three hours flying a lovely afternoon and some good images.
