Visit to Natural History Museum for WPOTY
November 3rd, South Kensington
A Sunday morning trip to see the 2024 Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum, South Kensington with Peter and Tina.
Catching the 9:48 from Stevenage to London Kings Cross and then Piccadilly line to South Ken. It was very crowded, and standing room unly on the Underground. We had 11:30am tickets for the exhibition and arriving at11:00am we had time for a Coffee before exploring the display.
This year they had over 60,000 entries for the competition and these are split into about 10 different catgegories, each with their own winner and then an overall Picture of the Year. As to be expected the images were on a high standard, but I thought there were fewer this year which had the “WOW” factor than before. It seemed the judges were selecting images that were from a wider variety of genres this year and hence some categories seemed weaker than others. To me there were more environmental drone and underwater images that previousely.
The overall winner was an underwater shot of tadpoles swimming between tall plants. I know my discussions with friends that this has decided opinion. I took no pictures from inside the museum but a few taken as we left the exhibition.
